The school that used to be…
Have been to my school today as it was celebrating it’s 25th year. A small group of us realized that it is almost a decade since we have finished high school. We were really excited to visit our school. A wave of nostalgia swept over me , but it was short lived. I realized that the school management wanted to corporatize the school and now has General Managers and a Human Resource Department. Teachers in the school are losing significance in the making of a school.
As an organization grows , I understand that the organization needs a structure for effective functioning of the school but if they over do it , it makes the organization so rigid. Not only it impacts the child but does not give any scope for the creative development of a child. This I think is the core function of any school not business targets to be achieved every year. I still feel that teachers always did a splendid job of administering the school as well as nurturing the child in a holistic manner. Unfortunately the emotional bonding which is much more than mere academics between a teacher and a student is fading away because of this.
Seeing all this, I had a very mixed feeling today. Happy on one side considering the fact that I had amazing teachers ( and terrific managers) who left an indelible impact on my life. At the same time, was really feeling very sad as schools these days are no more the Schools that used to be.
